Crucifixes Banned from Italian Schools

by David Faylin on Nov.04, 2009, under We're All "Hostage Of Dolour"

I’ll admit an unequivocal and unapologetic ambivalence at this story.. On the one hand, I’m no fan of orthodox religion yet on the other hand, where do “rights” begin and end.. I think whereas Soile Lautsi, the mother that brought the case is entirely at liberty to raise her children as she pleases, to try to beat the rest of the Italian people [who let's not forget bear the mantle of the upholding nation of Catholicism] into submitting to her beliefset is quite the most hypocritical standpoint.

Any prudent parent would choose to educate their child regarding the alternatives while of course directing and raising that child in the beliefset to which they themselves subscribe. But to try to negate an entire nation’s religious beliefs on the basis that it in some way removes the liberty of the individual to choose a secular upbringing for their children is absurd.

Personally I abhor orthodox religions as implements of Man’s attempts to control himself; to control the animal nature within. Nonetheless, I believe that each individual should be free to choose their own path away from the infernal damnation of Christianity; the zealousness of Islam and the incessant proselytising of rampant atheists such as Richard Dawkins.

Ultimately for me, I believe that the Eurpoean Court of Human Rights is an imbecile in this case; a pathetic ingratiator debasing the very idea of rights in favour of a basement floor style of lowest common denomination. I think Mrs Lautsi might be best advised to take up another crusade: that of raising her children in a less fanatical way so as not to engender similar fanaticism in them as adults. But really I think in all this we see a figurehead for a movement of unshackling. As individuals we know inherently that God is Dead; Man is god but we stuggle with the overwhelming indoctrination of our myriad religions. Eventually the Animal of Man will prevail against his own imposed controls, religion will perish, Man will become god.
